I really liked this video for its either intentional or unintentional irony. I really like that Johnny Cash became so open with his struggles and faith inspite of his imperfections. He did some really messed up stuff but always came back to God. The video was made after his death and initially I was stunned to see some of the people that showed up in the video. One part of me realizes that they're recognizing one of America's greatest. They know what song he's singing, they know he's singing about coming judgement. Some of these people are famous for the weakness that became very public. How will it be when all of our sins are made plain. Part of the song's beauty and message is that Johnny Cash is singing. U2's Bono spray paints "Sinners make the best saints". That might not always be true but so many times its in the transperancy of the imperfect that we see what God can really do. Johnny Cash knew perhaps better than anyone the cost of his sins. These passt two weeks I've felt cosniderable frustration with how rarely people listen. Then they come back to you to fix it when they don't. The morbidly obese person that wants you to get rid of the hypertension, hypercholestermia, and diabetes. The 50 year old smoker that's not ready to face death that calls from hospice. The man who had children with an addict that just wants everything to be OK. The women who gets an STD from her husband for the third time in two years. The selfish thirty something that realizes that he's spent his time making money but now is lonely and wants an antidepressant b/c it must be an imbalance. Make it better. Give me medicine so I can go back to the idealized lie with which I was comfortable. Forgive me and take it all away. How frustrating it is. Then I think about God must see me. He sees all the thing ought and need to and then I come to asking for this or that to be taken from me. Things I brought upon myself. I am so quickly reminded of my own sins. I love Johnny Cash's dirty faith.
